What is the image banner section?
The image banner section is a static image that can be useful in showcasing important and concise marketing messages. By using an image in conjunction with a combination of text, buttons and a countdown timer, this section can create a real statement that will catch the eyes of potential customers.
How to set up the image banner section
Steps
- Open the Theme Editor and add the Image banner section to the page.
- Click Add block or use one of the existing blocks that are present upon install.
- In the Layout settings, there are three Image height settings available.
Original image height: The original image height will be maintained so the full image is shown.
Fixed height: The slider can be used to select a specific px height.
Full screen height: The image will take up the full height of the screen, excluding the space occupied by the header.
- Choose whether to Make section full width. An image banner that is not full width will fit the Maximum page width set in Theme settings > Design.
- Decide whether to use the Top boundary effect. Refer to the Content boundary guide for more information.
How to use the Text overlay
When any text is added to an Image banner, it will appear as a Text overlay. The Alchemy theme includes settings to allow this overlay to appear on a coloured background, no background and with or without a border. The overlay can also be slightly transparent and with or without an image blur under the text. Use the settings to find the perfect solution for your store.
Steps
- In the main Image banner settings, navigate to the Text overlay setting.
- Use the settings to adjust the Border width, Border color and Corner radius.
- Use the Color scheme settings in Image banner > Style to set a color scheme for the text overlay. Set the Color scheme to None to have no background on the text overlay.
- Set the Text background opacity. If the opacity is less than 100% then the image will be partially visible and blurred. To remove or adjust the strength of the blur, go to Theme Settings > Design > Text overlay background blur.

How to use the countdown timer block
The Countdown timer block is a calendar-style count down from a specific date and time set by the merchant. It is typically used to create hype around a sales event or promotion and therefore may help to drive additional sales.
Steps
- Open the Theme editor and add the Image banner section to the page.
- Select Add block and click on Countdown timer.
- Within the Countdown timer block settings, the date and time information can be set.
End date: The date must follow the specific format YYYY-MM-DD. For example 13th May 2024 would read 2024-05-13. If the End date is left blank, then the timer will count down to midnight of the current day.
End time: This text must follow the 24 hour clock format, e.g. 17:00. To use an end time, an End date must be inserted, otherwise the timer will continue to count down to midnight, regardless of what is entered here.
End text: This is optional text that will be shown when the date and time have elapsed. - Use the slider to select the Number size and choose the Number font.
Note
FAQs
How does the countdown timer work in different time zones?
The timer will work in the time zone that the store is operating in.
How long will the countdown timer 'End text' message show for?
The End text will show indefinitely, until new date and time data is entered.
Why does my countdown timer display 0:0:0:0?
This is likely due to the format of the date or time being entered incorrectly. Double check that the date format is YYYY-MM-DD and the time follows the 24 hour clock HH:MM.
What happens when the timer ends?
If the End text has been entered, then this will show. If the end text has not been inputted, then the timer will simply remain as 0:0:0:0.
