Our commitment
Accessibility is a core principle at Clean Canvas. We are committed to building Shopify themes that are inclusive, usable, and accessible to as many people as possible.
All themes listed on the Shopify Theme Store are required to meet Shopify’s accessibility and performance standards, including Lighthouse accessibility benchmarks.
As the industry leader in Shopify theme development, known for setting the gold standard in quality, performance, and innovation, we aim not only to meet these requirements but to exceed them wherever possible.
Our approach
When developing and maintaining our themes, we prioritise:
- Keyboard accessibility and focus management
- Appropriate ARIA roles and attributes
- Configuration controls for colour contrast
- Accessible form controls and error handling
- Clear navigation patterns
- Ongoing Lighthouse accessibility monitoring
Accessibility considerations are embedded into our design, development, QA, and update processes.
Scope & shared responsibility
While we build our themes with accessibility best practices in mind, we cannot declare full ADA compliance or guarantee compliance with any specific accessibility legislation for an individual storefront.
A Shopify store’s overall accessibility depends on multiple factors beyond the base theme, including:
- The Shopify platform
- Third-party apps and embedded elements
- Custom code modifications
- Images, videos, and other media assets (e.g. alt text, captions, transcripts)
- Content structure (headings, link text, readability)
- Colour choices and branding adjustments
- Ongoing content updates
Accessibility is an ongoing process rather than a one-time certification. While we take great care in building Accessibility into our themes, we cannot be held liable for accessibility limitations beyond the scope of theme, or issues pertaining to the Shopify platform, third-party software, customisations, content decisions, or any alterations or decisions made by parties outside of Clean Canvas.
Continuous improvement
Accessibility standards and best practices continue to evolve. We are committed to:
- Monitoring updates to accessibility guidelines and Shopify requirements
- Refining our themes where improvements can be made
- Including accessibility enhancements in theme updates wherever possible
- Assessing and facilitating feedback in relation to possible Accessibility improvements
We welcome accessibility-related feedback and are happy to review reports so we can assess potential improvements within the theme’s scope.
Support
While we are unable to provide legal advice regarding accessibility compliance, we are here to support our customers from a technical standpoint wherever the theme is concerned.
