What is a content boundary effect?
Shopify themes are composed of sections stacked vertically which can have different color schemes. In most cases, the divide between these sections is a horizontal line. The Alchemy theme offers a more flexible solution by having several content boundaries, such as slanted lines, curves, waves and zigzags that can be used to make the transition between sections more eye catching for customers.
Find the style that most fits your brand in Theme settings > Content boundary effect then decide when and where to apply the style, with section by section controls.
Tip
How to use content boundary effects
Steps
- Open the Theme editor.
- In Theme settings > Content boundary effect select your preferred Content boundary style. This style will be used across the store. The first style is Straight (no effect) In addition there are other styles to add angles and curves between sections. Choose from Sawtooth 1, Sawtooth 2, Slant, Wave - tile, Wave - wide, Arc, Angled edge or Curved edge.
- Set the Content boundary scale. Some boundary effects such as Slant work best with a larger scale while others merit a more subtle approach.
- Go to a section and in the Style settings select a boundary effect. In most sections the effect will be applied to the Top boundary of the section. Hero banners, which can be used only at the top of the page, offer a Bottom boundary effect.

FAQs
I've switched a content boundary effect on in my section but I can't see it.
Please check the content boundary effect chosen in Design > Content boundary effect. If Straight (no effect) has been chosen as the style then the content boundary will be straight. The Content boundary scale is also important, for example, a value of 1 together with a Slant design may be difficult to see. In addition, ensure that there is sufficient contrast between the sections e.g. an image and colored background or two different colors. If two sections have the same background color it may not be possible to see the Content boundary effect.
The content boundary effect is only supported in theme versions after 5.0.0.
