FAQ page

A quick way for customers to find answers to common queries.

What is the FAQ page?

The FAQ page allows merchants to highlight detailed answers to typical customer queries. By having a dedicated 'Frequently asked questions' page, customers have an easy-to-find place where they can address their common questions. This could reduce the quantity of post purchase support that customers may require and potentially reduce returns.

How to set up the FAQ page

Steps

  1. Open the Theme Editor.
  2. Select Pages > faq from the dropdown at the top.
  3. This page comes prebuilt with several sections, listed in the Template section of the left hand side of the screen. 
  4. Once you have set up the content and layout, assign a page to use this template in the Shopify admin area within Online store > Pages.

In the Template section on the left of the screen, several sections are present by default: an Image with text overlay section which can also be used to hold the main h1 page heading, an FAQ section for searching the content and Expandable content sections to hold the FAQs. Sections can be added, removed or moved as required.

How to set up the FAQ section

The FAQ section is unique to the FAQ page and provides a great opportunity to make the Expandable content sections easier for customers to navigate.

Note

The Expandable content sections must be immediately below the FAQ section in order for the left hand navigation and search to function properly.

Steps

  1. Open the Theme Editor.
  2. Select Pages > faq from the dropdown at the top.
  3. Add the FAQ section and ensure that this is positioned above all the Expandable content sections.
  4. Select Show FAQ sidebar to show a clickable list of the expandable content that is available.

Note

If a section (Image with text overlay section for example) has the Set as primary page heading setting selected, ensure that the Show page title setting within the FAQ section is disabled, as only one h1 tag is required on a page.

FAQs

The FAQ page template is not listed in the Shopify admin area. How can I assign a page to this template?

Only page templates that exist in your published theme will show in the Shopify admin area page template picker. Read Shopify's Template guide for further assistance on this. 

How do I show the left hand FAQ navigation?

To show the left hand navigation, add an FAQ section and choose the setting Show FAQ sidebar. The sidebar will show the headings of one or more Expandable content sections that are positioned immediately below the FAQ section. 

Why isn't my page content shown?

Check that the Show page content setting is ticked in the main FAQ settings. If this is not ticked, then the page content will not be displayed.
