What is the custom content section?
The custom content section is a particularly versatile section where a combination of images, text, videos and custom liquid can all be used to communicate brand messages. As the various blocks can be arranged in different sizes and combinations, it makes it a very flexible and efficient way to communicate with customers.
How to set up the custom content section
Steps
- Open the Theme editor, click on Add section and add the Custom content section.
- Click on the image and text blocks that are available upon install, or click on Add block to choose a different block type. Blocks can be of type Image, Text, Video or Custom liquid. Up to five blocks can be selected.
- In each block, the Width can be selected. The same width can be chosen for each block, thereby giving the section a more uniform look, or, if certain blocks take precedence over others, the widths of these can be adjusted accordingly.
- In the Image block, the Image height can be selected for both desktop and mobile, to customise the look further.
- In the video block, there are two different methods to choose a video.
Video upload: Select a video file (e.g. an MP4) hosted on your Shopify store.
External video: This video from an external link supports YouTube or Vimeo videos. - If using version 7.2.0 and above, an Autoplay setting is available. If selected, the video will autoplay with no audio.
- It is recommended to add a Custom placeholder image that will display in the place of the video while it is loading, or if it cannot autoplay. This could be due to reasons such as a user’s poor internet connection, limited browser support or slow page load times.
