A free shipping bar can incentivize customers to purchase more items.

What is the free shipping bar?

The Free shipping bar helps to increase the average order value (AOV) for online stores by incentivizing customers to add more items to their cart to meet the minimum threshold for free shipping. For one or multiple currencies, it can show in both the cart drawer and the cart page.

How to set up the free shipping bar

Steps

Open the Theme editor and go to Theme settings > Cart.
Enable the Show free shipping bar setting.
In the Amounts input field enter the minimum order amount(s) to qualify for free shipping and make sure to have each currency entry on a separate line.

For example, if the minimum order amount for free shipping was $100, then USD:10000 should be inputted in the Amounts field.

If there are different rates for different countries using the same currency, such as the Euro, place the standard non-country-specific currency codes first in the list. Example: EUR:30000 for a free shipping minimum of €300 EUR across the Eurozone. You can then add to the list with specific country currency codes. Example: FR:EUR:20000 for a minimum order amount of €200 EUR for France.

Refer to these lists of currency codes and country codes to find the correct code to use.

Note

The free shipping bar must be set up manually and does not automatically reflect the settings in your Shopify shipping. If you are using any discount apps, we recommend not using this feature to avoid confusion, as the app cannot integrate with the free shipping bar.

How to set up using the same currency for multiple locations

If you wish to include different rates for different countries using the same currency, such as the Euro, make sure to place the standard non-country specific currency codes first in the list. Example: EUR:30000 for a free shipping minimum of €300 EUR across the Eurozone. You can then add to the list with specific country currency codes. Example: FR:EUR:20000 for minimum order amount of €200 EUR for France.

Steps

Open the Theme editor go to Theme settings > Cart.
Enable the Show free shipping bar setting.
Enter the location's country code. For example, if the customer is buying in France, €200.00 is needed to reach free shipping. But if the customer is buying in Belgium, €50.00 still needs to be added to reach free shipping.

FAQs

Why are some customers not seeing the free shipping bar?

The Free shipping bar will be displayed when the currency the customer has selected is represented in the options that have been entered into the Amount input field. You may opt to only offer free shipping to certain regions/currencies.
