What is the footer section?
The Footer section is an important part of the store that can be used to communicate information such as contact details, legal information and site navigation links.
How to create a footer section
Steps
- Open the Theme Editor and in the Footer Group see that the Footer section is already present.
- A maximum of four blocks can be added and there are three different block types that can be used.
- Either edit an existing Footer block or select Remove block and add a different block type.
- Switch on Show social icons and Show payment icons. The social accounts also need to be set up in Theme settings > Social media.
- The Country/Region selector and Language selector can also be set. For the correct information to be shown here, the Languages and Markets must be set up in the Shopify admin area.
- In the Style settings choose whether to use a Top boundary effect.
Although the Footer section is restricted to a maximum of four blocks, these blocks can be duplicated and reordered to account for slightly different content requirements. For example, two Image and text blocks and two Menu blocks could be added.
How to add a top boundary effect
The Alchemy theme includes a content boundary effect that can be applied to many sections including the footer. Instead of a horizontal line dividing the footer from the rest of the page, the Alchemy theme offers several different content boundary choices, such as slanted lines, curves, waves and zigzags.
The style is controlled in Theme settings > Content boundary effect and can be applied using the Top boundary effect setting available in many sections including the footer. Our Content boundary effect guide explains more about this feature.
How to add payment icons
In the Footer settings, the Show payment icons setting can be selected. These icons are pulled in directly from Shopify based on your payment settings.
These can be changed in the Shopify admin area, by going to Settings > Payments.
How to add social links
To show social media links, they must be set up first.
Steps
- Open Theme settings and go to the Social media settings.
- Insert the required URLs. A Custom link with an additional footer icon is also available.
- Go to the Footer settings and tick Show social icons.
FAQs
Can I add my own payment icons?
No. They are taken directly from the Payment settings in the Shopify admin area.
I've ticked the show social media links in the Footer settings, but none of them are showing?
Before the theme can display these must be set up in Theme Settings > Social media.
How do I see the top boundary effect?
If the Top boundary effect is switched on, but is not immediately visible, please check the settings in Theme Settings > Design > Content boundary effect. If Straight (no effect) has been chosen as the style then the content boundary will be straight. The Content boundary scale is also important, for example, a value of 1 together with a Slant design may be difficult to see. In addition, ensure that there is sufficient contrast between the sections e.g. an image and colored background or two different colors. If two sections have the same background color it may not be possible to see the Content boundary effect. The content boundary effect is supported in theme versions after 5.0.0.
